Market/Genre research
Similar products that are currently out include Sex Tape, 22 Jump Street, A Million Way To Die In The West, The Lego Movie etc.
Sex tape, directed by Jake Kasdan is directed to audiences who are interested in comedy and documentaries. However this is mainly for the older generations as it contains sexual natures and explicit content
22 Jump Street was directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord - This movie was made for comedy and action lovers
A Million Ways To Die In The West is a Western comedy, directed by Seth MacFarlane. This was made for comedy fans which is evident in the title of the movie
The Lego Movie directed by both Phil Lord and Christopher Miller is also a comedy, but as much as it's targeted for people who like comedy; it's also targeted to the younger generations, who may be interested in action figures like Lego

Response to brief
From looking at my survey and what the audience wants, I have chosen to go along with the genre of comedy. Comedy movies are the top most watched movies so far thi year and loads of comedy movies are being made, as gathered from research. I also found that the target audience were mainly young, ages ranging from 16-18 so as said this will be my target audience. I want my product to be effective, meaning it will engage the audience and have an element of comedy to it. There will be a lot of lights used in my product to give the audience a direct message, some of ideas include having a girl madly in love with a boy, but she is really unattractive and unpleasant so the comedy comes in where she tries to make herself look better and more attractive to get this boy; however she doesn't know how to do so which is the complication.
The analysis of existing products include to analysis of Fingersmith and James Bond that can be found on the blog
Our product will be conforming to the following conventions:
Idiotic people - this will be effective as this is one of the conventions of comedy, idiotic people may allow the audience to engage with our opening and it will be funny as they would love at the persons idiotic nature and stupidity
We will try to conform to the fast paced changing of cameras - this will create a good atmosphere and it may add comedic values
Upbeat music will be used, however we may subvert to it also; due to it being a film opening, so most of the opening will be taken up by credits and other things that may not allow the audience to hear the music
Conventions of Comedy
There are many codes and conventions used in comedy
Firstly the use of jokes is the most familiar to people, these are often responded to using pre-recorded laughs or the use of non-diegetic sounds
Upbeat music adds lightheartedness to the comedy movie or programme and creates a good mood for the audience so that it allows them to laugh more
The fast paced changing of cameras can be an action movie convention however this can be used often within comedy to add comedic values
The use of bright colours and light are used in comedy, this effectively adds comedy as this kind of hints that the comedy isn't serious; like for example the Simpsons are yellow which takes away the realism and is almost instantly comical. The bright light also shows the scenes are happy
Idiotic people are used, mostly compared to "normal people", this emphasises the stupidity of the idiotic person and shows the abnormality of the character. Above average intelligent people are used, for example in The Big Bang Theory and the comedy is emphasised because they are smart but very socially awkward and unaware of social boundaries with “normal” people. This may cause the audience to laugh
Mid-shots, close-ups and two-shots are used commonly in comedy to show the relationship between each character, the reactions to jokes and the main focal point of the story line

Audience profile
Audience profile
Demographic
From looking at the results from my survey, 57% were aged 16 -18 and 57% also had the favourite genre of comedy. From these results it seems clear to me who my target audience will be. It also seems as if the people who took the survey were mainly males than females, which could suggest that males are more comedy lovers than females, however there just be more males that took the survey.
Psychographic
They will be interested in film making, famous comedians and recent movies out now. Due to them being around the age of 16 - 18, they will use familiar social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook. From looking at my survey, it seems like the audience wouldn't go cinema very much, maybe a couple times a year, however they would watch the latest movies out. As they are very young, I imagine they shop in stores like JD, Toshop, Primark, Forever 21 etc. TV like Soaps, Hollyoaks, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Realistically they would still be in Full time education or studying in College or attending University
